Q. Does my resume need to be one page?
A. Your resume does not need to be one page. Short resumes are for recent graduates, and not for people with more experience. Do not go overboard, but get all the details in.

Q. Do you charge candidates for your services?
A. Under no circumstances do we ever charge the candidate, and you should be weary of a search firm that does. Our fees are collected from the client when we make a successful placement.

Q. What can I do to help my own job search?
A. We try our best to lead candidates in the right direction, but we have more candidates than there are jobs available. You need to network, and here are a few tips on where to start. Take advantage of social networking:
  • Have a LinkedIn profile and link to recruiters, people you know in companies or law firms, and your alma mater. Join groups for job seekers or contract attorneys. Get recommended by peers or previous co-workers.
  • Google Yourself! What comes up? Make sure that it is information that is appropriate to be on-line. If it is not, remove it.
  • Get on Twitter. Follow search firms, follow companies, follow recruiters and job websites. They’re all out there posting jobs, so you should be looking.
  • Read a lot! Stay up to date on current legal topics, especially involving companies that you are interested in interviewing with. Read the same periodicals that employers are reading. Stay knowledgeable of current trends and topics.

Q. Do I need to prepare documents other than my resume? What should my resume look like?

Q. How do I prepare for my interview?
A. Be up-to-date on the people you are interviewing with, the company, and current industry trends. Employers hire smart candidates, so show them you are knowledgeable and on top of your game. Do you research, dress appropriately, do not wear too much perfume, anticipate questions they will ask you and prepare some questions to ask them.

Q. Should I write a thank you note? Do I need snail mail it or is e-mail ok?
A. You should always write a thank you note. If the decision is going to be made quickly it is okay to e-mail it. If it is a more lengthy process, it is better to drop it in the regular mail.

Q. Can Pye Legal Group help me if I’m a recent law school graduate?
A. The searches we work on generally require a few years of experience, but we do have contract projects that require less work experience. In this case, experience on contract teams or software training would be necessary. If you are a recent graduate, you should work with your law schools Career Services office or your local Bar Association.

Q. How do I get on a contract document review project?
A. First, we need your resume. You can submit that through our website, and a recruiter will contact you if you have the necessary skills for a contract project. Ideal document review attorney candidates have worked on contract projects in the past, are flexible with work hours and locations, and have a good team work ethic. After you meet with one of our recruiters, you are on a list for upcoming projects, and we will contact you when something is available.

Q. Why should I work with a recruiter?
A. Recruiters are very knowledgeable of current market trends, including salaries and companies who are actively hiring. We also have established connections with many law firms and corporations in Dallas and Houston, and act as the "foot in the door" that our candidates need to get their resume seen. We coach our candidates on interview skills, resume tips, and offer negotiations - All at no cost to you.

Q. Will my resume be kept confidential, or do you send it to clients without my permission?
A. We will never send your resume to a potential employer without your permission.
